I have this subtle desire to have a garden where my family could grow most of our own produce. The truth is, I don’t know that I’ll ever tackle that project...because I know that gardening takes a whole lot of work. To have a successful garden, you have to know where and when to plant and how much sunlight and water your plants will need. You have to keep the weeds out and actually water your garden. You have to care for it and tend it on a regular basis. I have a lot of respect for folks who are willing to do that!
Did you know you can grow a spiritual garden, too? If you tend your fears, you will cultivate fear. If you tend your rights, you’ll grow selfishness. If you tend the bad habits, your garden will be full of those things. But there’s good news. If you tend your relationship with God, you’ll grow a much better garden—full of things like love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and self-control. I think we can all agree on which garden will have a more positive impact in all of our relationships. So the question is—what garden are you growing?
